Raising carbonate hardness and pH into a range that supports shell deposition is the whole treatment. The chemistry is not negotiable: while the water dissolves calcium carbonate, nothing else will help.
Shell damage in aquarium snails is overwhelmingly chemical. Where carbonate hardness and pH are low, the shell dissolves from the outside, typically starting at the oldest part — the tip of the spire — and progressing towards the aperture. New growth laid down in inadequate water is thin and translucent, and the boundary between old healthy shell and new poor shell is often visible as a step. The damage already done cannot be reversed; what can be changed is the water, so that subsequent growth is sound. This is one of the clearest cases in aquarium keeping where the visible problem and its cause are separated by months.

A snail's shell is calcium carbonate, and calcium carbonate dissolves in soft, acidic water. Erosion beginning at the spire and pitting across the whorls is a water-chemistry problem, not an infection, and no treatment will help while the water is still dissolving the shell.

The appearance is specific enough that a careful keeper can reach a working identification from the tank, though confirmation still improves the odds.

How to tell it apart: Impact damage is a single crack or chip in one location on one snail, with sharp edges. Chemical erosion is diffuse, starts at the spire and affects every snail in the tank.
