Sold as a ramshorn and actually an apple snail, which is the whole point: it will strip a planted tank exactly the way a Pomacea does, and it has been deployed deliberately as a biological control for weeds and for schistosomiasis-carrying snails.

Name ambiguity
An apple snail despite the trade name: Marisa is an ampullariid, not a planorbid ramshorn. The flat coiled shell is convergent, and the practical consequence — it eats plants like a Pomacea and not like a ramshorn — follows the family rather than the name.

An ampullariid, and the EU plant-health measure on apple snails — Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/2013 — is drawn at the genus Pomacea rather than at the family, so it does NOT reach Marisa on its face. That is a distinction to check rather than to rely on: the species is separately restricted in several jurisdictions as an agricultural pest, and a genus-level instrument is read at the genus it names. Confirm the position with the relevant national plant health authority before acquiring, selling or moving these snails, and never release them.
Never release aquarium life into the wild
