A burrowing thiarid that reproduces parthenogenetically, arrives on plants, and has become one of the more successful freshwater invaders in the Americas. It is genuinely useful in an aquarium and genuinely difficult to be rid of.

What keeping this species involves

Name ambiguity
Sold under two trade names — quilted melania and knobbly melania — which are the same animal. Melanoides granifera is a synonym of Tarebia granifera, and the two names were on the same Sprint 19 candidate list before the identity check collapsed them.
