A striped Caridina that is markedly more tolerant of ordinary water than the crystal red shrimp it is usually kept beside, and which will hybridise with it. Keeping both in one tank produces mixed offspring that resemble neither.

What keeping this species involves

Name ambiguity
Traded for years as Caridina cf. cantonensis 'tiger' before being described as C. mariae in 2018. It interbreeds with the crystal red shrimp, which is the practical consequence of the two being close relatives.
