Fin-nipping by tankmates
Act within daysvery commonHow to tell: Damage is on trailing fins only, edges are cleanly torn rather than eroding, and there is a known nipper present — tiger barbs, serpae tetras, black skirt tetras or an under-sized group of any of them.
Check
- Observe the tank quietly
- Identify the species present and their group sizes
Response
- Increase the nipper's group size, or rehome it.
- Keep the water clean while the fins regrow.
- Do not medicate for a mechanical injury.
